KELOWNA — Vit Zahejsky scored his first goal of the WHL preseason but the Kamloops Blazers were blown away the Rockets in Kelowna Saturday (Sept. 6) night.

The Rockets took the second of the weekend double header 7-1, as they enacted some revenge after the Blazers beat them 6-0 on Friday night in Kamloops. Unlike Friday, the Blazers dressed a number of rookies as well as some older players who are all looking to impress enough to earn a spot on the opening roster.

Zahejsky scored the opening goal of the game at 3:49 of the second period at Prospera Place to put the Blazers up 1-0. The 18-year-old Czech forward is going into his second season in the WHL.

The NHL draft eligible forward is coming off an injury plagued season that saw his finish with three goals and 15 points in 46 games.

It was all Kelowna the rest of the way as goals from Mazden Leslie, Owen Folstrom, Levi Benson, and Gabriel Guilbault had the Rockets up 4-1 after 40 minutes. A pair from Carson Wetsch and one from Carter Kowalyk in the third period made it a 7-1 affair.

Logan Edmonstone went the distance in the Blazers net as he made 33 saves on 40 shots. Harrison Boettiger picked up the win for Kelowna as he turned aside 17 of 18 shots in 60 minutes of work.

The Blazers will play two more preseason games against the Prince George Cougars this coming weekend. Friday’s (Sept. 12) game will be at Sandman Centre while Saturday’s will be at the West Fraser Centre in Quesnel.

The Blazers will then open the 2025-26 WHL regular season at home against the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday, Sept. 20. More information about the Blazers regular season schedule can be found here.
