Sailor Bar wildfire near Yale being held
YALE, B.C. — There is some good news in the Fraser Canyon as the Sailor Bar fire is currently classified as being held.
The 111-hectare fire, which sparked about seven kilometres north of Yale, was discovered late Saturday (Aug. 23) evening and it has more than doubled in size to 120 hectares in size the following day as crews battled poor visibility, steep terrain and regional heat warnings.
In an update this morning (Aug. 30), the BC Wildfire Service reported that the fire has experienced minimal growth and has mostly been a smouldering ground fire with pockets of weak surface flames.
There are eight firefighters assigned to this incident, and crews are continuing to work on suppression efforts at the top of the slope with support from helicopters.
