Paving work scheduled along Fourth Avenue as sewer main project moves to next phase

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says work to pave a one-block section of Fourth Avenue downtown will be taking place Friday (Aug. 29).

In a brief social media post, the city said Fourth Avenue between Lansdowne Street and Victoria Street will be open to traffic as of Saturday (Aug. 30).

Crews are also scheduled to resume working between Victoria and Seymour Street after Labour Day.

“Please use caution, follow the detour signage, and obey all traffic control personnel,” the city said Thursday.

Work to upgrade the sewer main along Fourth Avenue between Lansdowne Street and Victoria Street began on July 7, and it was expanded to Seymour Street about three weeks ago on Aug. 11.

Crews from BA Dawson Blacktop Ltd. will gradually make their way south to Battle Street by early November. At this time, the city has not announced when work is expected to take place south of Seymour Street.

“Access for businesses and residents will be maintained, but may be temporarily impacted at times during the work,” a City of Kamloops statement said. “The project team will maintain close communication with all affected properties regarding impacts such as access, parking, and garbage collection.”

The city also said temporary sidewalk closures may be in effect, and all buses that run along the Fourth Avenue construction zone will be detoured to Sixth Avenue.

This sewer main project – which builds off last year’s work along Lansdowne Street – is being done to upgrade capacity downtown for the City Gardens development as well as the Kamloops Centre for the Arts which is set to begin construction soon.
