MERRITT, B.C. — UPDATE: The severe thunderstorm warning for the Nicola region has been downgraded to a watch.
EARLIER: Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Nicola region
Friday afternoon (Aug. 29), the forecasting service put a warning in place, meaning storm activity is imminent. The service also put a watch in place for the South Thompson and North Fraser Canyon regions.
The storm is “capable of producing strong wind gusts, pea- to dime-size hail and heavy rain,” according to Environment Canada.
