Cayenne Creek fire near Seymour Arm being held

SEYMOUR ARM, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says a fire that sparked north of Seymour Arm on Monday (Aug. 25) is being held at 10 hectares in size.

In an update, it said the Cayenne Creek wildfire is not expected to spread beyond its predetermined boundaries under current condition.

The fire has been mapped at around 10 hectares in size for the past few days, though the BC Wildfire Service said no structures are currently being threatened by this lightning-caused fire.

As of the last update, there were 28 BCWS ground crews and three helicopters responding to this fire. A number of pieces of heavy equipment and other industry personnel were also responding to this fire.

While there has been progress on this fire, the BC Wildfire Service notes a week of hot, sunny weather across the province has led to the number of active blazes jumping above 80.

It noted forest fuels are highly susceptible to ignition, and incoming thunderstorms across southern B.C. are expected to bring a risk of lightning to coastal areas and the southern Interior.

Campfire bans officially took effect in the Kamloops and Cariboo Fire Centre at noon Thursday (Aug. 28).
