Kamloops-area communities set new daily temperature records for fourth day in a row
KAMLOOPS — New data from Environment Canada shows several Kamloops-area communities set new daily temperature records for the fourth consecutive day because of the ongoing spell of unseasonably warm weather in the province.
According to preliminary numbers from the weather agency, daily temperature records were either set or tied in 14 B.C. communities on Wednesday (Aug. 27), including in the Village of Lytton which also crossed the 40 C threshold for the fourth consecutive day.
Lytton reached a daytime high of 40.1 C, which broke the previous Aug. 27 record of 38.2 C set in 2017, with records going back to 1921. It was the coolest day of the week in the Fraser Canyon community as the mercury reached 40.3 C on Sunday and 41.3 C on Monday and Tuesday.
Kamloops also set a new daily record for the fourth day in a row as the mercury topped out at 37 C Wednesday. It was exactly two degrees warmer than the previous record of 35 C set in 1933, with records going back to 1890.
