SALMON ARM, B.C. — Officials in Salmon Arm say a fire that broke out in the city’s landfill Monday (Aug. 25) has been brought under control.

In a news release, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) says the contractor who handles metal recycling for the district was bailing scrap metal Monday when something exploded and ignited the fire.

The contractor called 9-1-1 and responding firefighters from the Salmon Arm Fire Department contained the blaze to the metal pile.

The CSRD says the site will be monitored throughout the rest of the day and into the evening.
