TOBIANO, B.C. — Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR) says the body of a person who drowned in Tobiano on Saturday (Aug. 23) has been recovered.

In a statement, KSAR says it was tasked out by BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) to respond to Kamloops Lake over the weekend.

“An individual was reported to be swimming toward a dock near Bruker Marina, but did not reach it,” KSAR said. “The Tobiano Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene within minutes, along with BCEHS and Tk’emlups RCMP. KSAR arrived shortly afterwards.”

KSAR says the victim’s body was found on the lake floor around 11:00 p.m. Saturday with the help of an underwater drone also known as a Remotely Operated Vehicle. They note a team from Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) also helped locate the body.

“The individual was recovered by the RCMP dive team on Sunday, with support from KSAR, the RCMP and the Tobiano Volunteer Fire Department,” KSAR added.

While police confirmed they responded to a drowning on Saturday, they did not release any more details, noting work to notify next of kin was underway. CFJC has reached out to RCMP for an update

“KSAR extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the individual during this difficult time,” the statement added. “We recognize the profound sorrow and loss that comes with such a tragedy, and we want to express our deepest sympathy to all those affected.”

“Our thoughts are with you as you navigate through this challenging period.”
