Investigation underway after human remains found inside burned vehicle near Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — The RCMP’s Southeast District Major Crime Unit is investigating a suspicious death after human remains were discovered in a burned out vehicle Saturday (Aug. 23).

The Tk’emlups Rural RCMP was called to respond to a vehicle fire on Tranquille-Criss Creek Road. In a news release, police say the human remains were found in what’s believed to a stolen, black 2019 Volkswagen Golf.

Police have not said if they have identified the human remains, but they did confirm that they’re looking into the circumstances of the death.

“MCU investigators are looking for public assistance in determining the circumstances that led to the vehicle fire and death,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Jason Smart of the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit said.

People with information about the vehicle as well as dash cam footage or other video surveillance of the Tranquille-Criss Creek Road area between 3:00 p.m. Aug. 22 and 7:00 a.m. Aug. 23 are asked to call the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit’s at 1-877-987-8477.
