ONE MAN'S OPINION

COLLINS: The One on the Right is on the Left

YEARS AGO, JOHNNY CASH made a hit of this funny song.

It was just a goofy song that caught people’s attention as they sang along. But listening to that song today made me see how much the song typified what’s going on in our world right now.

Everything is turned upside down, as the world tries to right itself.

Donald Trump’s agenda to be another Putin, eliminating peoples’ rights, checking into ways to take away basic human dignity, building the foundation for a white only society, checking the background of tens of thousands of immigrants who are living legally in the U.S., to see if they can find any scrap of information that would allow them to be deported, is going full speed ahead.

Creating a wall between countries that puts the Berlin Wall to shame. Cutting funding to schools and museums to help control what people learn. Or how about turning major cities into police states by taking over policing? And punishing people who don’t agree with Trump’s views?

And this is all in one country, and we haven’t even scratched the surface or touched on the Russian atrocities in Ukraine.

We haven’t even looked at our own country and the change in direction over tariffs and what that will mean for us in the long term. It won’t be a deal that will be good for Canada, I feel sure about that.

Women’s rights have been pushed back years. The climate crisis is being ignored.

And every time I try to make sense of it all, that funny Johnny Cash song haunts me, and I wonder if Cash had any premonition about whether the funny words back then would turn out to be so prophetic in 2025.

I’m Doug Collins and that’s One Man’s Opinion.
