Two people die in fiery crash on Highway 1 near Spences Bridge; police searching for witnesses and video

LYTTON, B.C. — Police are investigating after two people were killed in a fiery crash on the Trans Canada Highway between Cache Creek and Spences Bridge last week.

Lytton RCMP say they received multiple calls of a two-vehicle collision on the stretch of Highway 1 at around 4:56 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 14).

In a news release issued Tuesday (Aug. 19) morning, RCMP say a southbound SUV is believed to have crossed the center line and collided with a northbound pickup truck. Both vehicles were then engulfed in flames.

Police say a man in the pickup and a woman in the SUV died. The drivers of the pickup and SUV, as well as two passengers in the SUV, all suffered various injuries and were treated on scene before being sent to hospital. Police add that two dogs were also injured and received medical treatment.

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation and we’re hoping to speak with anyone who witnessed the crash or may have in-car video,” BC RCMP S/Sgt. Kris Clark stated.

At around 7:15 p.m. Thursday, DriveBC stated that the stretch of Highway 1 was closed in both direction. The highway reopened shortly before 2:00 a.m. the following day.
