Kamloops rugby tour to England thrown into disarray but survives amid Air Canada labour disruption

KAMLOOPS — For the past year-and-a-half, the Kamloops Raiders have been fundraising for a trip to England — the first women’s team tour in the rugby club’s history.

The Raiders are scheduled to play three games and go to four Women’s Rugby World Cup matches, including Canada’s clash against Wales next Saturday (Aug. 30) in Manchester.

The team was scheduled to depart at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 17) from Kamloops Airport and reach London at 6:00 a.m. British Summer Time on Monday after stops in Vancouver and Montreal.

On Saturday evening, about 12 hours before takeoff, the Raiders were told flights were cancelled amid the Air Canada flight attendants’ strike – and the tour appeared to be off.
