SILESIA, POLAND — It’s another medal for Kamloops-trained hammer thrower Ethan Katzberg as he continues to shine on the international stage.

The 23-year-old Nanaimo native won a silver medal with a throw of 79.30 metres at a Diamond League meet at Stadion Śląski early Saturday (Aug. 16) morning. Hungary’s Bence Halasz won gold with a throw of 81.77 metres while Germany’s Merlin Hummel took bronze with a 79.16-metre throw.

This is Katzberg’s ninth medal – and his third second place finish – this season. He was runner-up to Halasz at the Gyulai István Memorial – Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix event on Tuesday (Aug. 12) this week.

The Kamloops Track and Field Club member began the season with five wins in a row as well as a silver at the Prefontaine Classic in July. He also retained his national title earlier this month in Ottawa.
