KAMLOOPS — A world record was unofficially broken in Kamloops Wednesday morning (Aug. 13) at Afrofusion on Victoria Street downtown.

Zainab Oladipo surpassed the current record of just over 140 hours on Wednesday, tentatively putting her cooking marathon into the record books. It was an energy boosting moment for the chef who has been going strong for nearly a week.

“We actually made it, even though we had a little hiccups in the beginning,” said Oladipo. “I had done 87 hours and had to restart. And so everything just came together, it was worth it. And I was able to see a new vision of what to do now, I’ve broken the record. What am I doing now? I’m still going for my 300 hours.”

In addition to setting the record, Oladipo is striving to cook a dish from every country on earth. She also has not plans to stop until she reaches her personal goal of 300 hours.

“I always had the idea to do 300 hours, even when the record was at 100,” said Oladipo who continued to cook throughout the interview. “It wasn’t ever about what is the new record, how close can I get to it — it was always the goal to go for 300 hours.”

“It’s a big challenge, would take a toll on anybody. I’ve done almost six days now and can tell you it’s not an easy feat at all. But I’m so determined and I just love what it is we are doing — engaging with the community.”
