New wildfire west of Lac La Hache grows to 100 hectares in size
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — A trio of new, out-of-control wildfires ignited west of Lac La Hache in the Cariboo Sunday (Aug. 10).
The BC Wildfire Service says one fire nearly four kilometres southwest of Emerald Lake is measured at 100 hectares in size. It’s suspected to be caused by lightning, and no structures are currently threatened.
According to the wildfire service’s online map, the Emerald Lake wildfire nearly 39 kilometres south of Williams Lake is showing Rank 4 fire behaviour, meaning it’s a high vigorous surface fire with intermittent torching. The wildfire service credits the fire’s quick growth due to dry, hot and windy conditions in the area.
Fixed wing airtankers, helicopters, and one bulldozer and one water tender are supporting crews on the Emerald Lake wildfire.
