ASHCROFT, B.C. — Residents in the Village of Ashcroft will head to the polls in about two months’ time to elect a new councillor, who will be in office for just under one year.

The Oct. 18 by-election has been called to fill the vacant seat following the resignation of Councillor Doreen Lambert, who has moved to Nanaimo. Her resignation was accepted by Ashcroft council during their July 28 meeting.

Lambert was in her third term on Ashcroft council. She was elected in a 2013 by-election after Jackie Tegart was elected MLA in the Fraser-Nicola riding. Lambert was re-elected in 2014, but did not run in 2018 due to family responsibilities.

Interested candidates can drop off their nomination papers between 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, and 4:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12. If only one candidate comes forward, that person will be acclaimed to council, but there is more than one candidate, the by-election will proceed as planned.
