Lytton First Nation and TNRD rescind evacuation order and alerts related to Cantilever Bar wildfire

KAMLOOPS — An evacuation order and multiple evacuation alerts related to the Cantilever Bar fire south of Lytton have been rescinded.

As of 11:45 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 5), Lytton First Nation announced it has downgraded its evacuation order for reserves Lytton 26A and Skwayaynope 26 to all clear. Additionally, evacuation alerts for reserves Lytton 31, Nickeyeah 25, Papyum 27, Papyum 27A, Lytton 27B and Nohomeen 23 were rescinded.

Elsewhere, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) rescinded its evacuation alert for five properties on Spencer Road South.

Both Lytton First Nation and the TNRD note an evacuation alert, or order, can be reinstated should conditions change.

The BC Wildfire Service says the Cantilever Bar is being held at 1,425 hectares, meaning it is no longer expected to grow beyond its established boundaries and guards. The fire nearly 10 kilometres south of Lytton on the west side of the Fraser River is suspected to be human caused.
