Lytton-area fire being held at 1,420ha: BC Wildfire Service
LYTTON, B.C. — The largest wildfire in the Kamloops Fire Centre is no longer considered out of control.
In an update to its website, the BC Wildfire Service says the Cantilever Bar fire south of Lytton is being held at 1,420 hectares. It is no longer expected to grow beyond its established boundaries and guards.
The blaze was first discovered on July 28 about 10 kilometres south of Lytton, on the west bank of the Fraser River near a rail line. Within three days, the fire expanded to more than 1,000 hectares, growing up slope and to the north and west.
Lytton First Nation enacted an evacuation order for two of its reserves on July 31, while two other First Nations and the Thompson Nicola Regional District put limited evacuation alerts in place.
