KAMLOOPS — The family of the man who jumped from the Overlanders Bridge last week is issuing an urgent appeal for help as it strives to bring him home.

In a news release issued via social media, the family identifies the 23-year-old man as Braden Wallace-Peters.

He was seen jumping from the bridge on the evening of Wednesday, July 30. Witnesses say the man surfaced briefly before disappearing back into the onrushing Thompson River.

Family members and those from supporting First Nations have been searching downstream for Wallace-Peters in the days since the incident, along with Kamloops RCMP, Kamloops Fire Rescue, and Kamloops Search and Rescue — to no avail.

“Since the tragic incident, the family, with immense gratitude for the help received from their nations and leadership, has been spearheading search operations,” says the statement. “However, the sheer scale of the search area, particularly along the challenging currents of the Thompson River, necessitates further ground assistance.”

The family is asking for help from people with drones, kayaks, paddleboards and boats, as well as people who can search on foot or by watching the river.

Anyone who wishes to lend their assistance is asked to contact Nancy Peters at (250) 571-4186 or (250) 312-8040.
