100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — There will be two temporary closures of the emergency room at the 100 Mile House District General Hospital this BC Day long weekend.

Interior Health says the ER in 100 Mile House will be unavailable for six hours between 6:00 p.m. and midnight Sunday (Aug. 3) and again for 12 hours between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday (Aug. 4).

The ER is currently scheduled to be open from midnight to 8:00 a.m. Monday.

These will be the 13th and 14th ER closures in 100 Mile House this year, and the facility is coming off a 25 hour closure that was in place just last week. People in the area in need of emergency care are being told to head to Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake.

“All other inpatient services will continue at 100 Mile House District General Hospital,” Interior Health said.

This emergency room closure also affects residents in Clearwater as they were told they could make the trip to 100 Mile House during a 49-hour emergency room closure at the Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital.

That is no longer a viable option and Clearwater area residents should head to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops if they need emergency care this evening.

As has been the case during past emergency room closures, Interior Health said people should call 9-1-1 if they need emergency care, or HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 if they aren’t sure if they need to head to the emergency room.
