KAMLOOPS — A one-two finish for the Kamloops Track and Field Club in the men’s hammer throw at the Canadian track and field championships in Ottawa Saturday (Aug. 2).

Ethan Katzberg, the reigning Olympic and world champion, was the runaway winner with his best throw of 81.33 metres. It’s the third straight Canadian championship won by the 23-year-old Katzberg, who threw past 80 metres on five of his six throws.

The Nanaimo native set the Canadian record of 84.38 metres on April 20, 2024, and he also holds the national championship record of 82.60 metres set on June 26, 2024.

Katzberg will get to defend his worlds title next month in Tokyo. He won his first worlds title in Budapest in 2023 with what was then a national record throw of 81.25 metres.
