Brief issue impacting baggage screening belt issues at Kamloops Airport rectified

KAMLOOPS — There didn’t appear to be any significant delays at Kamloops Airport (YKA) Saturday (Aug. 2) morning as crews worked to fix an electrical issue that impacted one of the the baggage screening belts inside the terminal.

Kamloops Airport Managing Director Jim Moroz says the issue affected a foot pedal which controlled an inclined belt on one of the X-ray baggage scanners.

“It was fairly normal wear and tear,” Moroz said. “The crew would have had to handle the bags for a section and we got it repaired this morning.”

“Things are running smoothly now that all belts are operating.”

In a statement Friday evening, Kamloops Airport asked people to arrive early and to be patient as security screening staff were working to keep things moving smoothly. While its not clear what time the issue began, the statement was issued at 7:15 p.m. after the last scheduled flight of the day left YKA.

Moroz told CFJC Today that the issue didn’t lead to any significant delays to flights at the onset of the BC Day long weekend.

“It wouldn’t have had a major impact on a delay or anything,” Moroz said. “The screening machine was working and the belt that feeds that was working so it was a belt in a system that was leading up to that that was down.”

“The rest would have gone on as normal, it was just a little bit more arm work for some of the staff.”

Moroz also said that the issue at Kamloops Airport was not linked to temporary disruptions in the automated baggage screening system at Prince George Airport.
