Wildfire near Heffley Creek being held at 5.8 hectares
KAMLOOPS — The BC Wildfire Service says a wildfire in the Heffley Creek area of Kamloops is being held at 5.8 hectares in size.
It means the Lyons Creek fire, located between Lyons Lake and Heffley-Louis Creek Road, is not expected to grow further based on current fuel and weather conditions.
Nearly two-dozen BC Wildfire Service ground crews were working on this lightning-caused fire, which was discovered on Wednesday (July 30). Aerial resources and a heavy equipment team was also assigned to fight this fire.
“Crews have established access to the fire and a hoselay, and are working on setting up a bladder site,” the BC Wildfire Service said, in a statement. “A night vision helicopter was bucketing water overnight to cool fire behaviour on the northwest corner.”
