KAMLOOPS — There were no major injuries after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday (July 30) afternoon between a semi-truck and an SUV on the Coquihalla Highway, just south of the Lac Le Jeune turnoff.

Dashcam video posted to social media showed a southbound grey SUV suddenly cross over the centre median and into the path of a northbound semi around 2:16 p.m. The SUV driver appeared to have been trying to pass another truck just before they lost control.

In a statement to CFJC Today, BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) said it dispatched ground and air ambulances to the scene around 2:21 p.m.

“Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported by ground ambulance to hospital in stable condition,” BCEHS spokesperson Bowen Osoko said.

“A second patient was assessed but did not require hospital transport.”

It’s not clear what caused the crash, but pictures shared to social media showed the SUV on its roof in the centre median with debris strewn all over the highway. Its occupants were seen sitting next to the vehicle as others tended to them prior to the arrival of paramedics.

While the semi — which was carrying an oversized load — remained upright, it also sustained damage and it lost one of its tires in the aftermath of the crash.

The highway was not closed though the crash did lead to a slowdown. Witnesses told CFJC Today that vehicles were able to pass though the area, albeit at a slower speed.
