KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops NorthPaws remain in the playoff hunt in the West Coast League, but their hopes of making it to the postseason just got a little bit harder.

The NorthPaws dropped two of three games to the Nanaimo NightOwls this weekend at Norbrock Stadium to sit at 8-10 in the second half standings. While the NightOwls are also 8-10, Kamloops (22-23) has a better overall record than Nanaimo (20-25)

Sunday (July 27) afternoon at Norbrock Stadium, the NorthPaws were up 3-2 after the first inning, but they gave up three in the sixth and couldn’t claw their way back in a 5-4 loss.

While the NorthPaws took the series opener 9-7 on Friday night, they were beaten 11-8 on Saturday.

Kamloops is gearing up for a six game road trip to Vancouver Island that will begin in Victoria on Tuesday (July 29). The HarbourCats at 13-5 in the second half of the season, and are 25-19 in the overall standings.

The NorthPaws will also play the NightOwls from Aug. 1 to 3, before they close out the regular season with a three game series at home against Port Angeles Aug. 4 to 6.

Eight teams qualify for the West Coast League postseason — four each from the North and South division. Two spots go to the winners of each half of the season while the other spots are filled by next two teams with the highest overall winning percentage.

The NorthPaws currently have the fifth highest win percentage in the North Division (.489), meaning they’re just outside of a playoff spot. They sit three games back of Wenatchee and 3.5 games back of Victoria in the overall standings with nine games left.
