KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops NorthPaws won two of three games against the Kelowna Falcons this week to return to winning ways in the West Coast League.

The NorthPaws beat the Falcons 6-2 in Thursday’s (July 24) rubber match at Norbrock Stadium. Joey Rico hit his team-leading fifth home run as the NorthPaws improved to 21-21 in the overall North Division standings, and 7-8 in the second half standings.

The Falcons took Wednesday’s game in Kelowna by a 17-5 scoreline, while the NorthPaws won the series opener 10-6 on Tuesday. That Tuesday win at Norbrock Stadium snapped a seven-game losing streak for the NorthPaws.

The NorthPaws play their next nine games against teams from Vancouver Island. They’re hosting the Nanaimo NightOwls in a three-game series at Norbrock Stadium this weekend, with Game 1 scheduled for Friday evening (July 25).

They will then play six games in six days on Vancouver Island starting Tuesday of next week. They’ll play in Victoria between July 29 and 31 and in Nanaimo from Aug 1 to 3, before closing out the regular season with a three game series at home against Port Angeles Aug. 4 to 6.

Eight teams qualify for the West Coast League postseason — four each from the North and South division — and the NorthPaws are just outside of a playoff spot with 12 games to go.

Two spots are reserved for the winners of each half of the season, while the other spots are filled by the two teams with the highest overall winning percentage that aren’t already playoff bound.

The NorthPaws have one playoff appearance in their four-season history. They were swept by the Wenatchee AppleSox in a best-of-three divisional playoffs in their inaugural season in 2022.
