KAMLOOPS — The ASK Wellness Society has bought a pair of properties along Tranquille Road that it says will help support its current programming as well as its long-term plans which may include affordable housing opportunities for families and seniors.

In a news release, ASK Wellness confirms it has bought properties at 174 and 182 Tranquille Road, located down the street from Pathways, the temporary North Shore Access Hub it operates at 142 Tranquille Road.

The building at 174 Tranquille Road is currently home to Norkam Lock & Cycle and Strange Cloudz Vape while 182 Tranquille Road is home to People In Motion and Sippers Wine Making.

It is not clear how much ASK Wellness paid for the two properties, but Executive Officer Bob Hughes said the purchase represents the Society’s “ongoing commitment to responding to the needs of the community.”

“By investing in these properties, we’re not only securing space for essential services today, but we’re also continuing to build the foundation for inclusive, affordable housing solutions in the future,” Hughes said.

While online listings for the two properties have been taken down, it appears the property at 174 Tranquille Road was listed for $2.5 million, though it was later revised to $1.69 million. The property at 182 Tranquille appears to have been listed for $1.75 million.

ASK Wellness said the two properties will serve the immediate needs of its Property Services Administration team while also providing a stable, centralized location for the Community Living Program (CLP).

“Funded by Community Living BC, this vital program supports adults with developmental disabilities by fostering life skill development, community connection, and social inclusion,” ASK Wellness said in the release, noting the CLP currently provides services to 68 people.

While details or timelines were not provided, ASK Wellness also said it plans to “explore affordable housing opportunities” at the two sites in the future.

“Future development will be designed to complement the ongoing delivery of the Community Living Program and administrative functions on the ground floor, ensuring continuity of service while addressing the pressing need for accessible and affordable housing in Kamloops,” the news release said.

“As the Society awaits these future opportunities, it will continue to lease two of the suites on site to help service the financing of these properties.”

The two properties are located down the street from ASK Wellness’ Kamloops headquarters, located at 433 Tranquille Road. ASK Wellness has called the North Shore home for over 20 years, and it said this purchase reaffirms its long-term commitment to supporting the growing needs of a diverse and dynamic neighbourhood.

This is a developing story, and more information will be provided once it’s available.
