EDMONTON — The Kamloops NorthPaws are in a bit of a funk as they succumbed to their seventh consecutive defeat in the West Coast League Sunday (July 20) afternoon in Edmonton.

The Edmonton Riverhawks were powered by an eight run sixth inning en route to an 18-3 win at Re/Max Field. Kamloops native Matt MacDonald hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth to make it a 5-3 game before Edmonton went on an offensive onslaught.

The 23-15 Riverhawks took game two of the series 11-2 yesterday, and they also won game one Friday night 5-3. They boast an 9-3 record in the second half of the West Coast League season, which is good for second place in the North Division.

While Kamloops began the second half of the season with five consecutive wins over the Wenatchee AppleSox, they last tasted victory on July 9. The NorthPaws were beaten by Wenatchee on July 10 and were also swept by the Bellingham Bells last weekend.

The NorthPaws are 5-7 in the second half of the season and sit five games behind leaders, the Victoria HarbourCats. Kamloops is also in fifth place in the overall league standings at 19-20. Sunday’s result dropped the team below 0.500 for the first time this season.

Kamloops will hope to return to winning ways against the Kelowna Falcons. The NorthPaws host games one and three on Tuesday and Thursday (July 22 and 24) with game two in Kelowna on Wednesday.

All three games are slated to get underway at 6:35 p.m.
