KAMLOOPS — Community Futures Thompson Country is brining Lemonade Day into the B.C. Interior and to Kamloops for the first time this summer.

The free event, provides youth from kindergarten to grade 8, with the resources to launch their first business. Hoping to inspire the younger generation to become future entrepreneurs.

Registration is still open for kids looking to try their hands at business.

“The youth all proceeds that they make on Lemonade Day they get to keep,” said Jennifer Brown, Community Futures Projects Manager. “They are encouraged in the lemonade curriculum to save some, spend some, and then give back to other initiatives and organizations within the community. Also they are encouraged to pay back their investors which is maybe their mom and dad, grandma and grandpa. but they do learn a lot through the full curriculum, financial literacy, truly building a business plan, branding and marketing, the whole package.”

So far 50 kids have signed up for lemonade day on August 22 with a couple dozen local businesses jumping on to support the cause.

Lemonade Day has a proven track record with 28 per cent of kids that have participated in the event in other communities going on to start their own business.

“We encourage all the kids to get creative, we have already seen some who are making hand-made bracelets, they are making cupcakes and muffins,” added Brown. “The world is their oyster you could say, not just lemonade, very excited to see what they come up with. We already have six stands branded on our interactive stand map and you can go on their a check out what every business is offering.”
