KAMLOOPS – All types of summer camps are available for out-of-school students across Kamloops. The Big Little Science Centre (BLSC) is no different, offering a wide range of programs that, while mainly fun, are also very educational.

“It’s a long time to be away from school and away from learning. We try to do as many fun, interactive, and engaging hands-on activities as we can. When kids come to the science center, they don’t necessarily think they’re learning, but they are,” Said Jo-Ann Coggan, the operations manager at BLSC.

Two robotics camps are letting young minds run wild, building LEGO robots, and coding them to win fun learning based competitions.

“We’ve been building robots, and we’re going to do contests, we’re going to do speed and weight,” said a robotics student.

An important part of building a robot is the coding, which one student found particularly interesting.

“I think the coding is the most fun part, because you have to find out some random things that you need to do to make it work, and then if you find the right stuff, your robot can do what you want it to,” said another robotics student.

The Big Little Science Centre focuses on learning in engaging ways, which has led some to new passions.

“Within the BLSC, we have a lot of kids that come here all the time, but every day we’ve got kids coming in that have never been here before. It’s secret learning and they’re having fun. They’re being engaged,” said Coggan.

The full list of camps and clubs for the BLSC can be found on their website.
