KAMLOOPS — At the halfway mark of 2025, the Kamloops building sector has seen more permits issued but less construction value per project.

New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show nearly $131.6 million in permit activity as of June 2025, down from $190.2 million recorded as of the same month last year. However, 515 permits have been issued through the first six months of 2025, up from the 469 issued during the same time last year.

Kamloops also remains behind its new housing unit pace at the halfway point of 2025. Permits for 249 residential units were approved during the first six months of 2025, down from 330 during the same time last year.

For the month of June itself, however, it was busier for the Kamloops building sector year-over-year.

Nearly $52.4 million was recorded over 102 permits in June 2025, nearly double the value of $26.9 million recorded over 80 permits during the same month in 2024. Notable permits include one 112-unit residential building worth $32.4 million, 12 commercial permits worth $10.7 million and four single family dwellings worth $3.45 million.

Permits for 129 residential units were approved in June 2025, more than double the 55 issued in June 2024.

The Kamloops construction sector had its third-busiest year in 2024 with $349.8 million in permits issued.
