KAMLOOPS — The future arena multiplex in Dufferin will feature four sheets of ice and an even greater number of sheets of paper.

The City of Kamloops and the Thompson-Nicola Regional Library announced that space will be allocated to include a library branch in the four-sheet iceplex at 2070 Hillside Drive.

In a news release Monday (July 14), the city said the library space in the Dufferin arena multiplex will provide books, digital resources, community passes and library programs.

“This new branch will build on the success of the Aberdeen Tiny Library in bringing library services to southwest Kamloops, which is one of the fastest-growing areas of the city,” Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board Chair Barbara Roden said. “The positive response to the Aberdeen Tiny Library, and the number of people using it, shows the need and desire for library services in this area of Kamloops.

In April, Kamloops council approved the borrowing of up to $135 million for the four-sheet arena multiplex as part of the city’s Build Kamloops initiative. It came after a judge in B.C. Supreme Court ruled that the Alternative Approval Process the city used to gain public approval for the borrowing in would stand.

The city previously said that it hopes that construction on the arts centre can get underway later this year, with construction on the arena multiplex following suit in 2026.

As of the most recent information, those timelines appear to still be intact.
