Supporting families with reproductive services

THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE to raise a family than in British Columbia, but the path to parenthood looks different for everyone.

In-vitro fertilization, or IVF, can help make the dream of parenthood a reality for many families. But the cost of IVF treatment can be a major barrier on that path.

That’s why our government committed to covering the cost of one round of IVF for eligible future parents – and now we’re delivering on that promise.

Eligible British Columbians now have access to one-time funding of up to $19,000 toward the cost of a single standard IVF cycle, including treatment and medications. Patients can apply through one of the three participating fertility clinics in BC.

This program will be income-based to make sure that those who need it most are able to access this funding. Households with a pre-tax income of $100,000 or less will be eligible to receive up to $19,000, with incremental benefits still being available to households that make up to $250,000.

The decision to start a family shouldn’t be based on how much money you make. Our government’s publicly funded IVF program is making IVF care more affordable, more accessible, and is bringing hope to thousands of people across the province.

This is one small part of our work to make BC a better place to live, for everyone.

As Parliamentary Secretary for Gender Equity, reproductive health remains a top priority for me and our government, and this builds on work we’ve already done like providing free prescription contraception, aiming to eliminate cervical cancer with at-home screening kits, and addressing health equity throughout BC.

Additionally, just last Friday we announced the opening a first-of-it’s-kind menopause clinic in Vancouver; another step we’re taking to advance compassionate care for women and gender-diverse people throughout their lifetimes.

Making access to health care more equitable helps make our communities, and our province, stronger. There is lots more still to do, and we’re committed to this work now and into the future.
