SALMON ARM, B.C. — Police in Salmon Arm have added the first electric vehicle to their fleet as part of a pilot project that will test these policing vehicles across the country.

Mounties say the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck is “fully equipped and ready” for front line duties, after it was added to the fleet in Salmon Arm earlier this month. It said frontline officers will be diving the new vehicle to “test its performance in varied operational situations.”

“This is an exciting trial for our Detachment,” Staff Sgt. Simon Scott, the RCMP Detachment Commander in Salmon Arm said, in a statement. “Testing an electric vehicle in day-to-day policing helps us understand how these new technologies can support policing services while reducing our environmental footprint.”

Police in Salmon Arm say people can expect to see this new EV truck patrolling neighbourhoods throughout the community and in surrounding areas served by the Salmon Arm Detachment.
