KAMLOOPS — Kamloops firefighters appear to have made quick work on a grassfire just east of the Kokanee Way exit, the third grassfire they were called out to today.

Photos and videos shared to social media Tuesday (July 8) evening showed numerous Kamloops Fire Rescue apparatus on scene in Dallas as well as RCMP officers.

The fire was sparked around 8:30 p.m., and it was located between the CPKC railway line and the South Thompson River.

Westbound traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway has been reduced to one lane to give firefighters space to work.

According to witnesses in the area, firefighters appeared to have had the fire knocked down just after 10:00 p.m.

Kamloops firefighters were also called out to a grassfire in Strathcona Park earlier in the day. It was sparked around 4:00 p.m. and the City said it was under control just before 6:00 p.m.

Firefighters also made very quick work of a landscape fire along McGill Road in the vicinity of FreshCo. It was sparked around 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, though according to witnesses, it was knocked down within minutes.

This was also the second fire in the Kokanee Way area in as many days. Firefighters rushed out to the area around 7:00 p.m. Monday (July 7) evening, and they headed back about an hour later.

Monday’s blaze didn’t appear to be as large or as visible as the one this evening.

This is a developing story, and more information will be provided once it’s available.
