KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Cool Connection Nordiques had to settle for a provincial ball hockey silver medal this year.

They were beaten 5-4 by the Surrey Giants in a back-and-forth ‘C’ division gold medal game at McArthur Island Sunday (July 6) afternoon. While the Giants struck first, the Nordiques led 2-1 and 4-3 in the nine goal thriller as neither team had more than a one goal lead.

It was the second time the two teams met during this weekend’s tournament. The Nordiques came back from 4-0 down to beat the Giants 5-4 in round robin play on Saturday.

Despite the loss Sunday, the Nordiques have clinched a berth at 2026 Nationals as both finalists are invited to play in the tournament. A location for next year’s nationals has yet to be announced.

The Kamloops Painting Pros Flyers beat the Kelowna Twine Ticklers 8-1 in the ‘D’ division bronze medal game Sunday afternoon. The Flyers led 7-0 after one period and added the eighth goal in the third period after Kelowna pulled one back in the second.

The Kamloops Junkyard Dogs made it two bronze medals for Kamloops, as they beat the Burnaby Best Friends 9-2 in the ‘B’ division. Kamloops scored three goals in each period, while Burnaby managed one goal in both the first and second periods.

The Island Sting beat the West Coast Buckeyes 9-5 to win the ‘B’ division gold medal, while the Premier Hitmen were crowned ‘D’ division champions after they beat the Nanaimo Huskies 6-1.

The Junkyard Dogs and the Flyers may also get a chance to compete at 2026 Nationals if any of the other teams decline their invitations to the tournament.

Still to come, the Kamloops Bohnefide Blackjacks and Kamloops Rivershore Kings – who won the ‘B’ division title last season – will be competing in the men’s ‘A’ division tournament next weekend in Kamloops.

The newly formed Kamloops Vibe will also hope to capture the Women’s division title, with that tournament also scheduled for the weekend of July 11 to 13.
