COLLINS: The true sign that summer is here
HOW DO WE KNOW that summer is here?
There are all sorts of markers that people use. But I can tell you that there is only one true indicator.
It’s not the increase in heat outside leading to an increase in my power bill to run my air conditioning. It’s not the increase in the number of wildfires or the campfire bans. It’s not the fun of watching kids splash in the water park or the lake. Nor is it boating in the Shuswap, water skiing or tubing with friends. No, it is also not vacations to see family, or the increased use of my barbecue, a cold soda, beer or glass of wine.
And as much as I love the excitement of attending them, it’s not the fun of Canada Day celebrations, the pride in seeing our flag flying high, or the pride in joining our Indigenous brothers and sisters at the Kamloopa Pow Wow days.
