KAMLOOPS — There will be a change in senior leadership at the Thompson Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) for the first time in nine years.

Chief Librarian Judy Moore, who has been in the role for the past nine years, is moving to a new job in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her last day was Friday (June 27).

“It’s been an absolute honour and privilege to serve as Chief Librarian for the TNRL,” Moore said during a Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) committee meeting Friday.

“An absolute career highlight and an amazing region. I realize that we’re not especially using the region of BC’s best as a moniker, but I believe this is the region of BC’s best.”

TNRD Board Chair Barbara Roden said it was a “joy and pleasure” to work with Moore, who according to her LinkedIn profile has also worked at library systems on Vancouver Island and in Edmonton.

“Her passion for books and for libraries is absolutely second to none,” Roden said of Moore. “I know she and her entire team think outside the box in extraordinary ways and that is proved the large number of awards and recognition for innovation that the TNRL has received over the last few years.”

“Judy, I just want to say you will be very greatly missed, and good luck on your next phase of your adventure.”

TNRD CAO Scott Hildebrand said Thursday (June 26) that Moore has made a tremendous contribution to the library system in the Kamloops area.

“I’d like to wish her well. We appreciate her leadership and dedication over the last nine years and we’ll certainly miss her,” he said.

Hildebrand also told the TNRD Board that the search for Moore’s replacement – as General Manager of Library Services – is well underway.

“We have received interest from all over North America and are beginning to work though that process,” he said. “In the interim, Jenny Abramzik will be filling in to manage that role, and we appreciate her help and leadership through that short timeframe.”

Abramzik is currently the TNRL’s Manager of Discovery and Support Services.

Roden added Friday that the interest from all over North America is a “glowing testament” to what Moore and her team have built in the area.

“Because you don’t get people applying from all over North America unless they think they are joining a winner, something with proven success, and a place where their imagination can run wild, to coin a phrase.”

At this time, its not clear when Moore replacement will be announced, but an ad looking for a new candidate is no longer active.
