Nikaia Creek wildfire near Lytton being held

LYTTON, B.C. — (UPDATE 1:00 p.m.): One of two wildfires posing a threat to life and property in the Lytton area is being held.

As of Wednesday (July 2) morning, the BC Wildfire Service says the Nikaia Creek wildfire is being held at 5.73 hectares, meaning it’s likely to remain within its current perimeter based on fuel and weather conditions.

An evacuation order issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) for two properties near Spencer Road South in Electoral Area “I” has been lifted. The evacuation alert issued by Lytton First Nation for the Papyum 27, Papyum 27A, Lytton 27B and Nohomeen 23 reserves remain in effect.

The Nikaia Creek wildfire is suspected to be human caused.
