Kamloops Search and Rescue assists overheated hiker in Tranquille Slot Canyons
KAMLOOPS — A hiker in the Tranquille Slot Canyons in the Lac Du Bois Grasslands was rescued on Canada Day after overheating.
Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR) said it was called by the RCMP to find and evacuate the hiker at around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (July 1). In a post to social media, KSAR said it provided treatment to the hiker by improvising a rapid cooling system using a tarp, cold water and ice cubes.
“Credit goes to the hiker for recognizing when to ask for help and for not pushing herself to the point where a rescue would have been much more difficult and critical,” KSAR said.
KSAR notes temperatures ranged from 35 C to 38 C during the rescue. They said crews helped the hiker make her way back up the canyon and handed her over to her family.
