Kamloops Fire Rescue crews forced to douse firework caused landscape fire
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue was called out on Tuesday (July 1) evening to extinguish a small landscape fire that was caused by an unauthorized fireworks display.
“We arrived on scene to some homeowners and neighbours had actually for the most part extinguished a fire that was related to the illegal discharge of fireworks,” said KFR Deputy Chief Ryan Cail. “KFR crews remained on scene put down approximately 250 gallons of water to really saturate the ground, make sure there was going to be no reignition.”
There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire, and no structures were in danger.
“This is a direct result of why we are saying we don’t want any illegal use of fireworks,” said Cail. “Accidental discharge in an area that in untended for fireworks can have this exact outcome. Fortunately it was this time just in a little bit of vegetation.”
