TNRD launches new email subscription service following community feedback

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has launched a new communications tool that will enable it to reach out directly to residents and business owners who opt in.

CAO Scott Hildebrand said these local email lists were developed after two-thirds of respondents to the TNRD’s Communications Feedback Survey chose email as their preferred method to get information from the regional district.

“We plan to use these email lists to send not only news releases and newsletters but less formal updates as well with information about the TNRD, community events, or public hearings when applicable,” Hildebrand said.

“People can sign up easily by visiting the email list sign-up on our web page.”

In a statement, the TNRD said in order to get updates residents will be prompted to select at least one local area of the TNRD or one of its member municipalities. They can also subscribe to any existing TNRD newsletters that are already emailed out.

These local email lists will complement existing methods of communication, as the TNRD said it will continue to use “all communication channels and email lists as usual.”

“Our communications staff are excited to roll this out and to build these lists as a primary way to share information with our residents,” Hildebrand added.

“With the ongoing misinformation on social media, we feel this is an important tool to ensure that information is shared directly with our residents. We hope to grow these lists providing timely and fact-based information.”

The TNRD said the frequency of local updates will vary for each electoral area and member municipality, as service levels vary significantly between areas.
