NorthPaws win series against Kelowna; to rebrand as Kamloops Sandpipers on retro night in July

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops NorthPaws avoided an upset as they squared off against the Kelowna Falcons in West Coast League action Thursday (June 26) evening.

The NorthPaws scored two runs in the sixth inning at Norbrock Stadium to beat the Falcons 3-2 in the rubber match of their three game series. They trailed 2-1 after five innings in game three but were able to pick up their 14th win of the season.

Kamloops took the opening game of the series 16-0 on Tuesday, while Kelowna bounced back Wednesday with a 6-1 win of their own. The NorthPaws have won four of six meetings against the Falcons this season.

The 14-10 NorthPaws remain in fourth place in the North Division, and they’re gearing up for another six home games in a row – three against first place Bellingham (15-9) this weekend followed by three against second place Wenatchee (13-8).

First pitch against Bellingham this evening is set for 6:35 p.m.

Kamloops Sandpipers To Return

The Kamloops NorthPaws also announced Thursday that they would be rebranding as the Kamloops Sandpipers when the host the Bellingham Bells on retro night at Norbrock Stadium next month.

The now-defunct senior men’s baseball team won four provincial titles from 1984 to 1987 as well as the 1988 AA Western Canadian Championships.

Retro night is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 12.

The Sandpiper name was last used in 1993.
