LILLOOET, B.C. — Residents in the Lillooet area are without emergency coverage for the sixth time this month, and the 40th time this year.

Interior Health says the emergency room at the Lillooet Hospital and Health Centre will be closed for 13 hours between 7:00 p.m. Thursday (June 26) and 8:00 a.m Friday (June 27).

People in need of emergency care are being told to make the two hour trip to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, as has been the case during all previous ER closures in Lillooet.

While Interior Health did not say what caused this closure, it previously said that all ER closures in Lillooet were due to a lack of physicians. It’s led to the ER being unavailable for 971 hours this year, with each closure lasting just over 24 hours on average.
