Sarai offers signed apologies to mayor, council for code of conduct breach
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops city councillor Bill Sarai on Tuesday (June 24) ticked off Box No. 1 of his punishment for breaching the city’s code of conduct and his oath of office.
As recommended by investigator Reece Harding and stipulated by council, Sarai publicly apologized to Kamloops Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson, along with council, staff and the public for secretly recording a conversation with the mayor and initially lying about recording’s origins.
“I apologized in person to you last year,” Sarai said to Hamer-Jackson on Tuesday during a city council meeting. “Today, I am presenting you with a letter signed by myself with an apology letter in it for my actions, which caused you some grief. I owned up to it. I took responsibility and this is what the code of conduct should be doing and I am humbly accepting that I know I have work to do to build the trust of my residents.”
