Kamloops Y Dream Home Lottery grand prize winner elated with community built home

KAMLOOPS – Early Wednesday morning (June 25), the winners of the Kamloops Y Dream Home Lottery were annouced, and dozens of prizes were given out. Of the winners, Shawnah Janicki was the recipient of the grand prize home.

Bryce Herman, the Kamloops Y Dream Home Lottery spokesperson, had the honour of calling all the winners.

“What’s really great about phoning the winners is just the reaction. You never know what you’re going to get. It can be anything from excitement to absolute horror because they don’t really know what to do when they hear the news. But in most cases, let’s face it, it is a life-changing win,” said Herman

After spending a decade buying tickets, it has finally paid off, allowing Janicki to enjoy her evening.

“We’re going to crack some champagne and just talk about how amazing it is. Talk about what an experience it is. Talk about how anything is possible. This is a gift,” said Janicki.

For her family, it’s a night to celebrate and think about her future in the home.

“We literally don’t know. The possibilities are endless. That’s how we feel. Whether we keep this house or the other house. You could check in a week, and I still might not be able to tell you,” said Janicki

Next year, the Kamloops Y Dream Home Lottery are looking into an even bigger year to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

“We’re going to shoot for the stars next year because what next year is for us is it’s our 30th anniversary. So if you can believe it, we’ve been doing this for 30 years. We will be proceeding with another dream home for next spring. We’re very excited about that because to keep the momentum on a project for three decades is incredible,” said Herman.

There is another lottery in support of the Kamloops YMCA in the winter, while not as big, there are still plenty of prizes.
