KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is expected to move to a new digital ePermit system by December as part of its push to make it easier for people to apply for building and other development-related permits.

It says the ePermit Project will be built by staff from the Building and Engineering Development Division and the Information Technology Division over the summer, with a soft-launch slated for later this fall.

“We’re pleased to be able to better support homeowners, builders, developers, tradespeople, and registered professionals applying for permits,”Jason Dixon, the city’s Building and Engineering Development Manager said, in a statement.

“Customers will be able to apply for permits at their convenience, make payments online, receive real-time status updates, and receive notifications as the permit progresses towards approval, resulting in increased transparency, better communication, and faster processing times.”

According to the city, the new system will streamline services through an online interface to manage and process electronic building and other development permit applications.

“The city will use existing tools – including MyCity – to receive digital permit applications, enabling customers to submit requests at their convenience and make payments online,” the city added, in a statement.

People interested in learning more about the system can do so at an information session this Wednesday (June 25) at the McArthur Island Sports Centre Lounge. It will be held between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. that day.

The city says there will be information boards with visual examples of what the new application system will look like. Staff will also be on hand to walk people through the new interface

People can also have their say or make suggestions on potential improvements through a short online survey, which will be open July 9. They can also sign up to test a beta version of the new system ahead of its launch.
