KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Venom have wrapped up their regular season in the Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League (TOJLL) with defeat at Memorial Arena.

The Venom were beaten 8-7 by the Cranbrook Blackwolves in their final game Saturday (June 21) evening, meaning they will finish no higher than second in the TOJLL standings. The Venom went 8-6-2 in their 16 games, good for 18 points.

It’s the first time since the 2021 COVID Cup that the Venom have not topped the TOJLL regular season standings. They are three time defending champions, though they knew going into the season that a fourth title in a row would be difficult.

“We’re going to be a young, feisty, energetic team,” Venom General Manager Brad Watson told CFJC in April, noting around 10 players graduated from the junior ranks after the 2024 campaign.

“We have the ability to score, but young is going to be our identity, for sure – young and tough.”

Score they did, as the Venom led all TOJLL teams with 149 goals scored though they’ve also allowed the most so far at 138.

The Kelowna Kodiaks, who are 9-4-2 going into their final game of the season Wednesday (June 25), will finish atop the regular season standings this year. The Kodiaks will finish with at least 20 points, even if they lose to the North Okanagan Reapers.

The Reapers play the Blackwolves Sunday (June 22) morning, and the two teams are scheduled to meet on July 5 and 6 to wrap up their respective regular seasons. Elsewhere, the 7-6-3 South Okanagan Flames currently sit third with 17 points from 16 games.
