KAMLOOPS — Lachlan Will scored a pair of second half goals at Hillside Stadium to lead the Kamloops United (KUFC) men’s team to a 3-1 win over Nanaimo United in League1 BC action Sunday (June 22) afternoon.

Daniel Sagno also scored in the second half as Kamloops snapped a five game losing streak. They now have five wins on the season and remain in fifth place with 16 points from 11 games.

Aren Christianson was sent off late in the second half stoppage time after he picked up his second yellow card, though it was too late for Nanaimo to mount a comeback.

Elsewhere, the losing streak continued for the KUFC women’s team as they fell 2-1 to Nanaimo Sunday morning. Ruby Nicholas scored a pair inside the first 12 minutes as Nanaimo were able to then hold on after Scarlet Thomas put Kamloops on the board just before the hour mark.

This was the fifth defeat in a row – and tenth of the season – for the Kamloops women, who remain in the basement of the League1 BC standings with one win and three points from 11 games. Kamloops is eight points back of eighth place Nanaimo.

Sunday’s games also marked the second leg of the Reid Davidson Charity Shield, which was won by Kamloops for the first time. The first leg was held in May, with the Nanaimo women and Kamloops men prevailing.

Nanaimo won the inaugural Reid Davidson Charity Shield last season. The total points competition between the two teams is named in honour of Reid Davidson, who played soccer in both communities.
