COLLINS: Playing catchup requires a huge focus
I MADE A STARTLING DISCOVERY last week. And when I realized it, it was hard to process. As curious as I am about new innovations and new discoveries, it struck me that I know nothing about artificial intelligence. Well, virtually nothing.
I am embarrassed to admit it.
The whole development has passed me by. Oh, I’ve watched the odd movie and read the odd article but I’ve not gone beyond the thinnest outer layer of the onion. In other words, I’ve barely delved into the subject.
Maybe in my advancing age, I thought the word ‘artificial’ only applied to my knees, shoulder and other assorted things that have needed replacing. But now I’m actually starting to understand how many windows this technology is opening up. I’m sure many of these ideas had crossed my mind before, they just hadn’t coalesced into a solid group that caught my attention. I even have the perfect teacher. My cousin, older and smarter than I, is all over AI and Chat GTP, and can help me get my feet off the ground.
